Painting for me means establishing a continuous conversation with the canvas because every stroke changes the relationship between the different components of the painting: it is like a turn of a kaleidoscope.
In a painting, colours evoke an immediate emotion, non-mediated.

I am Elisabetta Sonda, a contemporary painter.

Painting for me is like meditating where time and place do not exist.
Through the creative process, I create works that draw from my memories of the past as well as on my current life experiences.
The footprints that remain during the exploratory journey of adding and subtracting colours and marks, illustrate a rich history that testifies to the evolution of the painting. The work comes to life, often with surprising results, even for me. Each piece is unique and has its own story to tell.

My work ranges from semi-abstract to abstract on canvas, paper and wooden boards using both oil and acrylic.

I have always been seduced by colours.

I was born in Holland where I lived until the completion of my classical studies. Very early on I became interested in the study of art, especially painting. After having lived in England, Germany, and France, I settled in Milan where I obtained a degree in Interior Architecture at the Academy of Applied Arts. Having always been seduced by color, I deepened my studies with Augusto Garau, an artist active in the MAC, Concrete Art Movement. My artistic journey has been developing from semi-abstract towards abstract over the years. Currently, I live in Chiavari, Italy.
